Game Theory from RPGs Applied to Businesses Leveling Up

Geek warning: today I'm talking about how to level up your business through game theory and understanding the mechanics of Role Playing Games. RPGs show us a framework that provides a very practical way to make decisions for your startup.

In RPGs, once you gain enough experience, you level up, and have a certain number of skill points you can add to your existing skills, or use to acquire new ones. In the same manner, businesses hit a point where they are producing beyond their bandwidth, receive investment, or are really big in the marketing and PR game but have no product yet.

Once this happens, they have finite resources to apply to reinforce existing skills or add new ones, just like an RPG. No level is easy; each new level is so much harder. Risk doesn't diminish after each level, but begins anew. What risk you took to begin this endeavor is likely the same level or less than the risk you may assume when you level up.

Culture is incredibly difficult to hang onto when leveling up. In this video, I discuss these concepts and how to help you make better decisions once you level up.
